Breaking the Silence: Celebrating World Menstrual Hygiene Day
World Menstrual Hygiene Day, marked annually on May 28th, is a global campaign that aims to break the silence, raise awareness and change negative social norms surrounding menstrual health. The day highlights the importance of good menstrual hygiene management and advocates for access to sanitary products, clean water and safe, private spaces for all who menstruate. It also serves as a platform to challenge the stigma and taboos that often lead to shame and misinformation, particularly in underserved communities.
With a growing global focus on health equity and dignity, this years emphasis is on ‘Making Menstruation a Normal Fact of Life by 2030". This vision calls for united efforts to ensure that everyone who menstruates can manage their periods safely, with proper care and without shame. By promoting education, improving access to hygiene products and encouraging open conversations, we can empower people who menstruate to live with dignity and confidence. Lets use this day to support efforts that make menstrual equity a reality and to reaffirm our commitment to a world where no one is held back because of their period.
Meet our Supplier – TOTM
Inspired by both of their daughters, Kate & Saint founded TOTM with the desire to build a purpose-led brand that offers better, sustainable ways to manage periods. They have created a period positive work environment with menstrual leave, menstruation and menopause policies, and free period care. On top of this they also donate 1% of all product sales to Endometriosis UK. They provide a menstrual wellbeing support community where there are shame-free discussions around periods and menstrual wellbeing.
To make the most of the sunny season and celebrate the hard work of our incredible team, we decided to host a Summer Social BBQ for employees. This was a great opportunity to bring everyone together in a relaxed, outdoor setting to enjoy great food, refreshing drinks, and engage in lively conversation catching up with colleagues in a more casual atmosphere. A delicious spread of BBQ favourites was grilled. The energy was high throughout the afternoon. The Summer Social BBQ was a perfect chance to take a break from the usual routine, strengthen team connections and simply enjoy each other’s company.
Employee of the Month – Ashley Kent
Congratulations to Ashley for being named our Employee of the Month! As a new member of the team, she has settled into her administrator role with impressive ease, demonstrating outstanding dedication, a strong work ethic, and a proactive attitude. Her initiative and commitment have already made a positive impact, and we’re excited to see her continued growth and contributions. Well done, Ashley!

1. What is your role at IOC? My role is a mobile operator. I have many responsibilities such as taking deliveries to different contracts, cleaning floors and carpets, cleaning bathrooms, collecting rubbish and attending emergency calls out of hours.
2. What is your favourite hobby outside of
work? My favourite hobby outside of work is playing football.
3. What do you enjoy most about working for IOC? What I appreciate the most while working for IOC is the time spent with fellow mobile operators and my office colleagues.
4. What is the toughest challenge you have faced within your role? For me, every task I undertake has
been a challenge as I always strive to ensure they are completed to a high standard reflecting the quality of performance in the work associated with each contract.
5. When you are at work, how do you motivate yourself? I am motivated by my colleagues. While some tasks may be challenging or unpleasant at times, the bond we share as a team transforms them into more manageable and easier tasks to complete together.

Food Waste Separation Law Being Enforced
We’re excited to share an important step towards a more sustainable future! Starting 31st March 2025, the Food Waste Separation Law will officially come into force. This new legislation is designed to reduce the amount of food waste sent to landfills by requiring businesses with 10 or more full-time employees to separate food waste for proper recycling or composting and have separate collections for specific materials such as paper, plastics, metal and food waste. By doing so, we can help cut greenhouse gas emissions and support the development of renewable energy sources.
It’s a small change in our daily routine but a giant leap for the planet. What does this mean for you? All food scraps will need to be placed in a designated food waste container and collected by your waste provider accordingly. Most businesses already have mixed recycling collections in place, but the new legislation states that paper and cardboard should be separated and collected separately apart from where it isn’t possible for technical, economic, environmental or practical reasons.

First Aid Training

1. What is your role at IOC? My role is a client services manager. I am responsible for various sites across the west end.
2. What is your favourite hobby outside of work? I practice mixed martial arts, not so much now but
did a lot before. I now enjoy my family time and going travelling.
3. What do you enjoy most about working for IOC? The support we are given by all team and staff are also very supportive on sites.
4. What is the toughest challenge you have faced within your role? One of the toughest challenges I’ve faced is balancing the need of high quality clients with big contracts, especially during emergencies when
unexpected events happen like leaks, accidents, last minute changes with staff etc.
5. When you are at work, how do you motivate yourself? I motivate myself by looking at the bigger picture and understanding the impact of my work/role. I also set small and achievable goals through my week – whether it’s completing specific tasks or improving certain areas and celebrating these keeps me motivated. I find that keeping a positive mindset and remembering why I enjoy my job keeps me pushing forward, even on tough days.

Employee of the Month – Tomas Perez
Tomas has done a fantastic job mobilising a large new contract for IOC over the past two months with quite an intensive transition from their old offices to their impressive new facilities. Tomas has managed to arrange the deep cleaning teams across both sites whilst transferring the existing cleaning team from the incumbent contractor to ourselves and meeting all the needs and requirements of our client at the same time.

Choice Support – Tuck By Truck Sweet Box
Here at IOC we have been supporting a local charity ‘Choice Support’ for 8 years who deliver a monthly treat box to our head office. The staff who attend our offices are always a delight and provide a high quality service.
Choice Support work alongside ‘Tuck by Truck’ a supported employment service, aiding autistic people and people with learning disabilities in obtaining work. They help individuals to gain work experience, skills and also help secure future work by helping with work placements or find paid work with other organisations such as Choice Support.

Samaritans Purse International Relief – Children’s Box Donations
This time of the year can be very difficult for many families at Christmas, so here at IOC we have decided to help children in need, by asking our team to come together and make up Christmas gift boxes for children which contained the following toys – Washroom products, Barbie’s, Toy cars, arts and crafts and items of clothing. We have also donated five pounds per box that has been sent, which allows us to track which country these boxes have gone to. We have also written a note on behalf of IOC with an email address for the children to stay in contact if they wish, we look forward to hearing from the children this festive season. Read more…

The increase is designed to help workers in London and it is meant to help workers cover the cost of living in the city and to aid with the overall current cost of living crisis. Meet our Supplier –
All waste sacks are UK manufactured by Berry BPI and are made from both recycled and recyclable materials.
Our “Green Sack” range is generated from UK farm polythene waste, product supplied to the farm community is purchased back by BPI and recycled into the waste sacks in which we supply our client base. Berry BPI believe that it is essential that every product they place into the market is capable of being recovered and recycled into second life products and ensuring that valuable resources are captured and retained within a circular economy, in line with principles of initiatives such as Ellen MacArthur Foundation, of which Berry Global are a member.
Berry bpi have a target for all products to be recyclable by the end of 2023.
Berry bpi also have set themselves the following goals;
- To have zero accidents amongst all of our staff, our contractors and visitors to our sites and premises
- To produce only 100% recyclable products by 2023
- To reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 25% by 2025 (vs 2016/17 baseline)
- To reduce energy and water consumption by 1% per annum
- Achieve zero waste to landfill across our operations
Plastic Free July
Plastic Free July is a holiday that is dedicated to teaching people about the dangers of plastic and encourages people to avoid plastic for a month. At IOC we are taking steps towards reducing our usage of plastics, for example we have taken on IOC branded metal bottles in place of single use plastic bottles. We are also working with numerous suppliers with the same idea in mind to cut down on plastic use.

In celebration of The King’s Coronation along with our commitment to plant new trees, we funded a Primary schools tree planting of a Crimson King Acer Tree. This was a great day had by all, educating the children on the importance trees have on our environment and now they can nurture and care for the tree and watch it grow for years to come.

8th June – World Ocean Day
On 8th June it will be World Ocean Day, a global celebration that raises awareness on the importance of the ocean and to help encourage people to take action to protect it. There are numerous ways in which we can help protect the ocean and below are just a few ways in which we can play our part in protecting the ocean:

- Stop using one-time-use plastics, for example, stop using bottled water.
- Pick up garbage when you see it at the beach.
- Cut down on seafood where possible.
- Provide support to conservation efforts.
- Avoid cosmetics with microbeads.
- Conserve water.
- Avoid buying items that harm wildlife.
- Spread the word of World Ocean Day and encourage the protection of the Ocean year-round.
